1) Take scent strips or samples of fragrances from the store and try them at home. This will allow you to avoid being overwhelmed by the other fragrances at the store. Moreover, when you smell each scent make sure there is a way you can clear the fragrance smell in your head by sniffing coffee beans or your sleeve before trying the next scent.

2) When you have a fragrance picked then it is time to check how that fragrance works with your body. Touch your wrists with dabs of the fragrance and check how the scent smells throughout the day. If you like the smell then that’s a keeper.

3) Bear in mind perfumes have “notes.”  While you may be happy when you first spritz some perfume as time wears on the perfume will settle down to its base notes which you may not like at all!

4) Layering on a fragrance is the best way to keep the scent lingering. When showering put a little bit of the eau de parfum version of the fragrance. Or when using body lotion, use eau de toilette after that. The two layers are more than enough for you to smell your scent.

5) Alcohol or witch hazel can be used to remove any over sprayed fragrance from your body.  You can also try rubbing a freshly cut lemon.  To rid your house of perfume odors, percolate coffee, or boil vinegar and lemon peel and let the steam fill the house.

6) Switching fragrances occasionally will help you from over dousing. The nose gets used to the same fragrance and might cause you to spray more generously than usual.

7) When selecting fragrances it’s not always the top-selling brands that are the best.  Perfume work very differently with different people, so what works for another person may not be the one best suited for you.

8) That being said ensure you pick high quality fragrances.  Cheap over the counter scents not only have sickly sweet smells but may also contain low quality ingredients that are harmful to you.

9) You may probably want to choose a lighter, fresh scent for daily use and a more intense dusky scent for special occasions and nights out.  Remember not to over-spritz!

10) And finally last but not the least, don’t mix a heavy deodorant or strongly scented body lotion with perfume.
