Firstly remember mental harmony is as important as restoring physical imbalance. Secondly do not ignore bodily discomforts as “normal”. While an occasional pain or minor illness is indeed normal constant aches and pains, food cravings, disrupted sleep patterns, constant tiredness, etc. need to be dealt with immediately. More often that not we overwork our minds and bodies and push them to the limits, and like machines that need overhaul our bodies and minds need rest and recuperation.

Here are some simple ways to re-energize yourself through the day…

Get enough sleep. Sleep heals, repairs, and rejuvenates the body. Your sleep must be restful and solid. The best way to get a good night’s sleep is to be completely relaxed before you sleep. Did you know that your adrenal glands are constantly pumping out hormones when you are tired and over-active or stressed out and these hormones prevent you from falling asleep?

Therefore, switch off your computer, cell phones ,TV and bright lights one hour before you sleep. Let fresh air in the room. Do some simple stretches and deep breathing. Scent your pillow with a few drops of lavender oil. Gently massage your head and neck. Listen to some soft, soothing barely audible music. Draw your curtains so that the street lights don’t penetrate your room. Sleep reasonably early and get up early too. While a good night’s sleep is a must – sleeping too long can ironically make you feel fatigued and out-of-sorts.

When you wake up, again do a few simple stretches. Brush your teeth and wash your face – you can add a drop of lemon oil to your toothpaste for a fresher feeling. Drink an invigorating cup of peppermint tea and head out for an early morning walk. If you can, go to a park or a trail, where you can breathe in and take the sights and sounds of nature.

When you head out for work offer gratitude to your job and those who mentor and guide you. Don’t be overwhelmed; break up large tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember to take small breaks and not sit in one place for too long. Also remember to eat. Include nuts, sprouts and fresh fruit in your food. Eat smaller portions and eat more often instead of three huge meals a day. Drink plenty of water. Try use authentic sea salt or Himalayan salt and cut down on sugar as much as you can.

At the end of a hard day’s work consciously unwind. Read a good book, meditate, and take in some exercise or yoga. Spend time with family and friends. Head out for a movie, out to dinner or even watch some TV, remember to limit your viewing time to around 2 hours or less in a day.
